What You Should Know Before Applying

1. Who We Serve
Firm Foundation of Virginia serves expectant and single mothers with children under the age of 18 who are
experiencing homelessness, poverty, housing instability, and/or crisis.
2. Our Faith-Based Foundation
Firm Foundation of Virginia is a faith-based nonprofit organization. Our faith informs our mission and commitment to
serving mothers and children with dignity, compassion, and respect. Services are available to eligible participants
regardless of religious preference or belief.
3. Programs & Services
Services may include Case Management, Short-Term Shared Housing, Transitional Housing, housing stabilization
assistance, financial education, employment support, life skills, and referrals. Rapid Re-Housing may be offered
when funding is available.
4. Housing Availability
Housing is not guaranteed. Placement depends on program eligibility, household composition, available housing
inventory, unit size, applicable occupancy requirements, landlord approval, and available funding. Household size
that can be placed is based on available housing inventory.
5. Employment, Income & Housing Contribution
Employment and income requirements may vary by program. Effective October 1, 2026, Firm Foundation uses
gross income for applicable income-based calculations. Participants may be responsible for a portion of housing
costs. Your specific contribution will be reviewed with you before housing assistance begins.
6. Program Participation
Participants are expected to actively participate in case management, goal planning, financial education, and other
services identified in their transition plan.
7. Housing & Lease Arrangements
For participants placed in housing, lease arrangements are made directly between the participant and the property
owner/landlord. Firm Foundation may provide approved rental and/or utility assistance based on program eligibility
and available funding.
8. What Happens After You Apply
Firm Foundation reviews your application and required eligibility documentation. Applicants who appear eligible
may proceed to an admission interview. The next step may include acceptance, conditional acceptance, waitlist
placement, referral to another resource, or notification that current program requirements are not met.

If you have completed the pre-screening process and were invited to apply, complete the Program Admission
Application and submit the requested initial documentation. Firm Foundation will contact you regarding the next
step in the admission process.
